Hello everyone,
April was a huge month for Trade as One. We established a networking site, posted new products on the website and participated in our first ever Do Justice event! Whew - I can't wait to see what comes next for us!! There have been lots of updates to
www.tradeasone.com in the last few days, so if you haven't visited recently, take a look and let us know what you think. Some items to recap from our phone call yesterday:
1. The event titled 'Do Justice' in Atlanta. On April 22 about 600 people attended an event hosted by North Point church in Atlanta that highlighted the issues of human trafficking and child soldiers. Through high quality video, art and narrative, people were exposed to the stories of a handful of the 27m people in slavery today. The final environment of the event was one that celebrtated the hope that exists through organizations that provide routes out of these desperate lives. Trade as One provided products that people could buy, made by women released from trafficking and commercial sex work in Cambodia and Thailand. The response from customers on the night was amazing. Over 100 personal cards were written to the women who made the products. You can see them all at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tradeasone_dojustice/show/ These will also soon appear on the Trade as One website in the Do Justice Gallery.
People also sent video messages by You Tube back to the women. You can see them at:

2. New Products. For the Atlanta event, we purchased products from two anti-slavery organizations, NightLight in Thailand and Hagar Designs in Cambodia. More information about both organizations and product lines are available on the website under the Do Justice Collection link. Our May featured product is the Large Tote from Hagar that is made from a recycled rice bag!
3. Ning Network. Ning is the new way to keep in touch and up-to-date with what's happening at Trade as One. To join, please visit
http://tradeasone.ning.com. Members can view special photos and videos from events, read Nathan's blog, and participate in discussion forums about new ideas on the road to wiping out poverty. This is also the best place to post tips and share ideas with others about your experiences as a Trade as One advocates (like how to host a TaO church sale, or how to tell your friends about your personalized TaO webpage (for an example visit
www.tradeasone.com/linda and if you'd like one of your very own, just shoot me an email).
4. Advocate Resource materials. Cath and I are in the process of developing tools for advocates to easily share information about Trade as One. Currently in the works are a 10 minute DVD, a "how to" manual for in-home gatherings and community product sales, a small product catalog and order forms, and information brochures about Trade as One. If you have any ideas about content or other types of materials we should be producing, please don't hesitate to let us know what you need.
5. Monthly newsletter. Our second edition went out this morning. Feedback is appreciated! (If you didn't receive it, send an email to cath@tradeasone.com)
6. Seasonal Sales. Now is the time to book your seasonal sales with churches or community groups for the summer and into the fall.
Our next call will be Monday, June 4 at 1pm PST. (If you'd like to propose a date or time change, please do so.)
Thank you so much for your efforts on behalf of Trade as One!!
Krissy
